The stripping has started

I sold the interior to a member of the e36coupe forum, it was better selling it to a bmw owner than it going on the local tip, and I also got some cash for it that could pay for other items on the car.1231755537Along with the cash, he lent me a lovely green drivers seat so I could get back home.

The car…

This was the interior of the car, before the preparation started, the airbag, radio, aircon, central locking, will all be removed, along with the interior, so the cage can be installed.

Number 73

Well I applied to the BMWRDC for my membership (and racing number) and got assigned 73, and I should be racing in class ‘D’

All I have to do now is prepare the car.

The ARDS test.

Well it was that time, on a cold and foggy morning I set out from my house to go to Brands Hatch, I had booked my ards test with MSV (motorsport vision) and took the precaution of having a hours training on the circuit with one of there instructors before my test.

The test was scheduled for the afternoon and in the morning I had the training.
It was a trackday, so there was a lot of nice machinery around, Aston Martin DB9R, a couple of X-Bows, radicals and a few BMW’s. For me this was quite daunting as I had not been on a track before with this many people.
During my tuition, I found out that they could use this tuition towards the ards test, if I was competent enough, but I would only find out this later.
For the actual test (there was four of us taking it on this day) we watched the video, next was the driving, I was notified that I had done enough in the training session earlier so I did not need to go out again (I could of if I wanted to but that could of blown my chances if I span it on the second go.)
When the other 3 had done there driving we did the written test, all of us scored 100% in this, so it was just the results of the driving that we needed to see if we had passed our ARDS.
We all passed, and about 2 weeks later I was in possession of my racing licence.

The car at the start

The car is a 1998 BMW e36 318is coupe
It has the M44 engine that is a 1.9 4 cylinder engine, the colour is alpine white, and the wheels are 17″ replica BMW motorsport rims that are normally found on M3’s
With the regulations for the kumho stating that you can only run 15″ rims, the garage I brought the car from dropped in a set of 15″ alloys from a e46, and I was left to sell the 17″ wheels on ebay.
The specification of the car is quite basic, it has no M-tech body styling on it, (although I am sure it soon will), the bottom of the bumpers and sills are in the grey colour, but mainly its a clean (84000 miles) honest car.
OK it had a couple of issues, like the seals around the windows have all perished, the engine mounts were shot and it looked like it had not had an oil change for about 20,000 miles, but nothing I could not sort.
